We all have these worn-out beliefs, preconceptions, or prejudices that we unconsciously haul around with us. Usually they have nothing to do with reality, and yet we carry then still, even as they negatively impact our lives. For centuries, seafaring people believed that the world was flat and that you would fall off the edge if you sailed too far. That belief had nothing to do with reality, but it still placed an artificial limit on adventure, discovery, and a better life for millions of people.
All personal discoveries or breakthroughs begin with a change of mid or heart. “Every day,” wrote Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho, “God gives us the sun and also a moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy. Our magic moment helps us change and sends us off in search of our dreams.”
You think you can’t do math or learn a musical instrument? Change your mind. You think you can’t get along with your sister, your neighbor, or your father-in-law? Change your mind. You think you can’t travel the world, follow a dream, or change your life for the better? Change your mind and you change you life.
