Hundreds of thick, complicated books have been written about the way couples communicate (and the ways they don’t communicate.) But one of the oldest and wisest insights is also the shortest. The great secret to great communication is conveniently hidden in the world itself. The word “communication” comes from the ancient Latin root word “communicare” which literally means “to unite or share together.”
The secret is simple: If whatever you’re doing or saying isn’t helping you to “unite and share together” as a couple, it’s not communication its something else.
